New spy thrillers, some outdoors equipment that works at home, a podcast for the season that’s getting love
I have a soft spot for spy thrillers, and I feel like I’ve read most of the greats, so I was happy to discover a new author, new series: Chris Pavone’s books about expat spies (and such) in Europe.
I got into it with the latest book, Two Nights in Lisbon, but I prefer the predecessors, from The Expats to The Paris Diversion. They’re mainly about Kate, a woman with a lot of secret history in spy circles, and a husband who’s generally up to no good. The books are quick, clever, layered with deceit – too reliant on cliffhangers, too indulgent in flashing back, but still fun, full of armchair travel and intrigue.
