First off: multiple readers asked for yesterday’s sweater to be identified. It is the crewneck guide sweater from Filson. Like I said, not inexpensive. Though if I were in the market for another sweater, less pricey but still looking good, I’ve had my eye on a Shetland crewneck from ACL Golf.

Next: Some people find their way to this newsletter or my work via Everything Now, the recent Los Angeles book. Which is wonderful. And because the book quotes many other books about L.A. and California, it’s led to DMs or emails asking for recommendations. So, here are a couple newish titles I enjoyed recently that are about the place, one way or another.

  • Fiona and Jane by Jean Chen Ho. More novel than short story collection. Two friends grow up together around L.A., with stories about family, school, careers, bad/good sex, bad/good partying. Really good.
