A few months ago, I read in a novel – I want to say it was one of Andrew Sean Greer’s Less books - about a character who enjoys a podcast where the announcers read the week’s news in very slow German.

Naturally, I had to find the podcast.

It’s not bad! I mean, I have no desire to learn German, I don’t especially like the language sonically, but here’s how it works for me: if you desire human background noise in your life – a little ambient/aural companionship while you’re cooking or walking – may I suggest listening to a bit of people speaking slowly and quietly in a language you completely don’t understand.
