A riff on Italy’s baccalà mantecato, see below

First, a quick plug. We’re going to get into what’s hot and not for 2024 in a moment, but truly the hottest thing are my wife Rachel Knowles’s skills as a freelance editor and writing coach.

It’s true! If you or somebody you know is looking for someone to help with a manuscript, screenplay, book proposal, or short story—or maybe a brainstorm, or just some ideas on how to get unstuck, even a grad-school application—Rachel has helped me (and plenty of other people) tremendously through all kinds of writing and editing challenges, and I don’t know anyone better. Hit her up.

So, I saw “DJ Anonymous Teenage DJ” during the holidays. She’s been featured here before—my friends’ Gen Z daughter who has really good taste in music and cinema, especially for someone so young. Over dinner, she shared a couple lists she composed of what’s going to be in and out for 2024—hello, cash; goodbye, girl dinner—plus some events she feels likely to occur, and she granted me permission to share.

Incidentally, I shared her lists with a friend last week, who shared them with another friend, who sent them to someone famous, who reposted them on Instagram, and it all became a meme. If you’ve seen these before, now you know the source.
